Existance - Miles Apart EP

label - cut records
genre - dubstep
release date - 2012

Taking a clear nod from the classic sound of dubstep, as well as continuing the emotive sounds of our existing Cut catalogue, Louis brings us three excellent pieces from the vocal-led "Miles Apart" to the piano-driven bliss of Pelennor Fields.
His sample, synth, bass and drum selections fit very well together, and his ear for a great melody and strong but not overbearing bassline is evident on the EP.
Like a selection of our previous output, Existance provides us something that we can happily listen to on headphones, yet something equally at home in the DJ bag for warming up the dance.

Erik Jackson - Rainy Days

genre - jazz, instrumental hip-hop
release date - 2012

"Rainy Days" was a project I have been working on for over a year. After my last album "The Road Less Traveled", I wanted to push further into jazz, and dig even deeper into my soul. The album weaves in and out of acoustic drum & bass or (jazz & bass), to Traditional jazz songs. I am very happy with the outcome. The albums theme is; a cold and rainy night, an old turntable and the progression of the evening at home, alone or with someone special. That's what was in my mind when It was created. I will let your imagination create the rest. I guarantee this is something you have never heard before.

DFRNT - Actaeon EP

label - cut records
genre - dubstep, drum'n'bass
release date - 2012

Clean-cut and minimal intricacies, infinite synth stabs and mellow vocal work with a suitable helping of bass when required. This EP showcases a slightly alternative side to DFRNT's work, and is bound to please fans of the recent output of Autonomic affiliates such as Synkro, Indigo, ASC or similar.
The second EP to surface in 2012, the tenth release from Cut is as much a curve-ball for the label sound as one might expect. Despite the clear shift in tempo, we reckon the emotion, melodies and musical sensibility within these 3 originals and 2 remixes is more than enough to tie it to the Cut family.

01 Dark Spaces
02 Too Long To Wait
03 Everything
04 Smoothiesforme - Will This Ever End (DFRNT Remix)
05 Seba - Painted Sky (DFRNT Remix)

Denizo - Strange Things

label - lucky time records
genre - abstract hip-hop
release date - 2011

Denizo – a member of Jazz Gangsters - offers us some "strange things" in a new release on the Lucky Time label. A couple of months ago, Jazz Gangsters published a debut nu-jazz and hip-hop album entitled "Golden Jazzyland."
During the recording of that album it was impossible to predict how much things would spin out of control – and turn into a collection of broken, dope beats. Maybe that's because Denizo also works as a techno producer. Not long ago, in fact, he published 12" some fearsome German techno on Shaded Records.
When asked about the recording process for this newer, even more adventurous release, Denizo explained how he had used random sounds taken from a radio set.
"I simply twiddled the knobs, changing stations and recording the result. That's how we ended up with such 'strange things.'"
