Maed Meva - Figures

label - export label
genre - turntablism, instrumental hip-hop, downtempo
release date - 2012

Export Label proudly presents an EP that is a result of a collaboration between a producer – Maed, and a turntablist - Meva. It is a mix of down tempo compositions and subtle scratching.
After a long break, Maed returns to his musical roots. Over the past few months he’s been preoccupied with his project Deam, where he’s been introducing his own vision of electronic club music to Polish audiences. But now, he’s decided to bring back what he’s best known for – instrumental hip – hop. His first record was released in 2008 by the 16 Verses Label. It was an album inspired by the likes of Madlib, Bonobo and Kero-One, all fused into an original vision of Maed. In this new release, one can hear how much has changed since the first record. Maed has grown, training himself in the post – hop – hop sounds of artists like Flying Lotus or Teebs.
Meva’s scratches are the perfect supplement for Maed’s beats. Meva has been scratching since 2006, when he put down his electric guitar and bought a pair of turntables. He is a veteran of scratch sessions, workshops and battles all around Poland. Meva hails from the new school generation of scratch musicians, but in his recording debut he resisted the temptation to use well – known samples and sentences. His cuts are specially selected sounds that fit perfectly into the melancholic music of Maed.
As a bonus, the listener will get a track called „Atak Robotów” („Aliens Attack”). Maed recorded it with Meva and Lapsky (Polish DJ champion) for a Ukrainian – Polish compilation called “It’s not boring – It’s ambient”.
In „Figures” the listener finds a modest, decently made scratch – music suite. It is not devoid of a jazz feeling, one that is pumping some fresh air into the ever-present, overhyped laptop beats. It is an EP on a juncture, one between electronic music and jazz, turntables and beat machines. Fans of Ricci Rucker or Onra will feel at home.

GNs Compilation - Break Asymmetry

label - export label good netlabels
genre - nujazz, downtempo, abstract hip-hop
release date - 2011

Good Netlabels is proud to present another volume of GNs Compilation: Break Asymmetry. This release celebrates the fourth anniversary of the launch of Good Netlabels, a site dedicated to music produced and published independently or via netlabels, available online for free. From the very beginning, Good Netlabels has been devoted to reviewing and promoting the most interesting releases within the realm of contemporary electronic jazz, abstract instrumental hip-hop, experimental downtempo, chillout or trip-hop. The newest release, Break Asymmetry, shares this ambiance. Those familiar with last year's GNs Compilation Jazzy Puzzle will have another opportunity to listen to tracks by Printempo, Maed, Crookram, Nienvox, Thallus, Bandfx. Break Asymmetry also features promising newcomers, such as JazzClams, Ears, Quantifier, B.R.O, Lupid Ocampo, Niteffect and Danny Bow. All featured artists have already arrived on the underground scene. They are people of original ideas and exceptional musical imagination; each track bears witness to the enormity of the potential that lies in these artists as well as in the music of the new generation. Music which, in its independence, many a time finds itself going against the current of the mainstream.

genre - abstract hip-hop, folk, electronic, trip-hop
release date - 2012

Export Label presents the newest release in the label’s catalogue – Expoet by Eufoteoria. It is the third album in the career of this Polish producer, who debuted at the beginning of 2011, immediately receiving recognition from the critics and following from the audience. It is with the audience in mind that we present this new album, Expoet.

Footprints 10 - For Human

genre - jazz, nujazz, mix
release date - 2009

Exactly 4 years ago in spring, 2005 the first Footprints mixtape appeared. During these years a lot of material promoting the music of the 1960s and the 1970s came out. The time for an aniversary mixtape has come. Matam rather left "keeping legends alive" idea - digging through pretty large amount of net-labels not only from Poland. In this almost one-hour set we can find tunes from many labels such as: Budabeats, Estrada Nagrania, Dirty Birdexx, Bump Foot, Moon Label, Humanworkshop, 16 Wersów, Test Tube or Tokyo Down. Matam completed the mix with dialogues form Jovita movie (1967) by Janusz Morgernstern so the whole thing refers to Polish PRL culture promotion. The author of the cover is a legendary RSO196. Hope you enjoy it! footprints-jazz.blogspot.com

GNs Compilation - Jazzy Puzzle

label - good netlabels
genre - nujazz, downtempo, hip-hop

release date - 2010

One of the most popular netlabels blogs is celebrating its 3rd birthday! Yet, this jubilee is so different because instead of receiving presents we decided to give away one – the freshest compilation from the goodnetlabels.blogspot.com. Consistent notes devoted to nu- jazz, hip- hop and downtempo sounds – that’s what attracts our readers, but it’s hard to treat this blog just like another average music diary. Especially when the author, Matam, once in a while provides you with some mixes and compilations made by himself. You just got his mixtape recorded together with Master’s Voice and released few weeks ago. Now it’s time for his newest compilation to hit the streets – the ‘Jazzy Puzzle.’ You’ll find there artists such as Mead, BandFX, Crockram, Suhov, Scatabrain, and many more. Tempting indeed.
