As a child I believed two things. I believed that if I ran in the rain fast enough, the raindrops would not hit me, and that the raindrops fall to the ground to the beat of music. Whether you believe it or not, I forgot about it for two decades, until one rainy day I listened to the fourth instalment of GoodNetlabels Compilation… Moved by the music, and reminded of these two childhood memories, I came up with the title for the compilation, one that evokes the atmosphere of that innocent time.
So how do raindrops fall, then? Can we call it art? Reason dictates that they fall down as the wind allows them to fall, but perhaps such an adult perspective is not the best one here, and perhaps it is better to use our imagination the way the artists who contributed to this outstanding compilation did?

Animal Spririt is the fourth volume of the GNs Compilation series, compilations that are released to celebrate Good Netlabels’ birthday. This newest one has once again been assembled in the course of a competition, in which we selected the most interesting contributions. So now we present to you those chosen compositions under the title of Animal Spirit. It consists of 11 pieces, which can be stylistically divided into two parts. The first part is more ambitious, stripped down, with elements of electronic music, and the second is more gentle, calmer, with a nujazz feel. To celebrate the 5th birthday of Good Netlabels, a site devoted to the promotion of noteworthy endevours within the underground scene, we have decided to release a new album in the GNs Compilation series. It is the third project in the series, but for the first time ever the contributions have been selected in the course of a contest. Over the last three months we have collected entries that would then undergo a careful selection. In order to make the process as fair and unbiased as possible, music journalists, visual artists as well as musicians have been asked to make the selection.

This newest part of the GNs Compilation series, entitled Empty Shadows, is an international project that marks a shift in the approach to and the preparation of the compilation. While Jazzy Puzzle and Break Asymmetry were collections of recordings created specifically for these compilations by artists invited to these projects, this time it is Good Netlabels readers that contributed to the compilation, by the same token showcasing the underground scene.
Once again the author of the cover is Justyna Bielecka. All translations have been done by Ola Górska, and the sound and mastering have been done by Cuefx.

Good Netlabels is proud to present another volume of GNs Compilation: Break Asymmetry. This release celebrates the fourth anniversary of the launch of Good Netlabels, a site dedicated to music produced and published independently or via netlabels, available online for free. From the very beginning, Good Netlabels has been devoted to reviewing and promoting the most interesting releases within the realm of contemporary electronic jazz, abstract instrumental hip-hop, experimental downtempo, chillout or trip-hop. The newest release, Break Asymmetry, shares this ambiance. Those familiar with last year's GNs Compilation Jazzy Puzzle will have another opportunity to listen to tracks by Printempo, Maed, Crookram, Nienvox, Thallus, Bandfx. Break Asymmetry also features promising newcomers, such as JazzClams, Ears, Quantifier, B.R.O, Lupid Ocampo, Niteffect and Danny Bow. All featured artists have already arrived on the underground scene. They are people of original ideas and exceptional musical imagination; each track bears witness to the enormity of the potential that lies in these artists as well as in the music of the new generation. Music which, in its independence, many a time finds itself going against the current of the mainstream.

One of the most popular netlabels blogs is celebrating its 3rd birthday! Yet, this jubilee is so different because instead of receiving presents we decided to give away one – the freshest compilation from the goodnetlabels.blogspot.com. Consistent notes devoted to nu- jazz, hip- hop and downtempo sounds – that’s what attracts our readers, but it’s hard to treat this blog just like another average music diary. Especially when the author, Matam, once in a while provides you with some mixes and compilations made by himself.
